OBITUARY
James Gerald Ames of Jefferson Twp passed away Thursday, November 27th at St. Mary ‘s Villa Nursing home, Elmhurst Pa peacefully into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim was born on August 20th, 1941 in Hornell, NY. Son of Gerald Ames and Virginia (Rollins) Ames. Jim was a graduate of Canaseraga High School in NY. He went on to serve 4 years in the US Navy. He also graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible Seminary in 1971 and obtained an associates degree at Rochester Community College in NY. Jim worked as a salesman for Prudential for many years and also the retail shoe business. In his retirement he also worked at Weis Market in Hamlin, PA. Jim was a member of Light of Christ Church, member of the Gideons Ministry, and a friend of Bill W.
He also enjoyed soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, hunting, gardening, and reading the bible. He loved everyone around him and wanted them all to feel Christ’s love! Jim was marked by his undeniable strength and fortitude in everything that he did.
Survivors include his ex wife/best friend Sandy, Jefferson Twp, children, Tim, Jefferson Twp, Scott Jefferson Twp, sister Judith Lenton, and several neices, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Rathburn.
On January 24th, 2026 a visitation will be held at 10:00 AM, a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM and a luncheon to follow at Light of Christ Church in Mount Cobb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Light of Christ’s Church or the Gideons Ministry.
His family would like to thank the staff at the WB VA Hospital ICU, the WB General Hospital PAM unit, the East Mountain WB Geisinger Hospital (3rd floor) and St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst for their expert and compassionate care.
