Sammy Tornabene had a double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds as the University of Scranton men’s basketball team defeated Nazareth University on Saturday, 73-63, to sweep both its games at the York Spartan Classic.
Tornabene had 18 points in the first half to help the Royals take a 40-35 halftime lead.
Brendan Carr added 16 points and six rebounds. Nick Ruisi chipped in 10 points and Jon Spatola collected six points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Scranton (9-1) is idle until Jan. 3 when it visits King’s College at 3 p.m.
Football
Lackawanna College had three players named to the NJCAA Division I All-America team. Offensive lineman Jason Hoskins was chosen to the second team, while quarterback Jacob Tiberi and wide receiver Christian Harrison received honorable mention.
Hoskins anchored the left side of Lackawanna’s offensive line and helped the Falcons average 399.3 yards (147.7 rushing, 251.7 passing) and 31.2 points per game. He is the 15th offensive lineman in Lackawanna history to receive All-American honors.
Tiberi finished with a school single-season record 175 completions, while throwing for 2,352 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Despite missing the final four games, Harrison had 606 receiving yards, which ranked 12th in the country, and six touchdowns. His 101.0 yards-per-game average was second in the country.
