Doris June Bower

OBITUARY

Doris Bower was born 1928 in Allentown, PA. She was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on October 13, 2025 at age 97. Doris was a resident of Luther Crest in Allentown for nearly 15 years. Her parents were the late Raymond and Mae Renninger. Doris was married in 1952 to Clyde R. (“Tom”) Bower of Allentown, PA. Doris is predeceased by her husband, Clyde, her brother, Foster, her nephew, Scott Renninger, and her parents. Survivors include her son, Craig, her grandsons, Jeffrey and Joshua, and her nephew Kevin Bower. Starting as a young girl, Doris attended Sunday School and Church at Salem United Methodist Church in Allentown where she and Clyde were married. She remained a lifelong and active member of that congregation until the church’s closing and the transfer of her membership to Asbury United Methodist Church. Doris was a retired legal secretary who held the same job working for the same attorney for 42 years, employment that stretched from the time of her South Whitehall High School graduation until the death of her employer. Doris met her husband, Clyde (“Tom”), in Allentown while waiting for the Liberty Bell trolley in 1951. The marriage of Doris and Tom, judged by many to be a loving and harmonious union, lasted nearly 64 years until his death in 2016. During their retirement years, Doris and Tom traveled widely including many international trips and 40+ trips to Texas to visit family. Doris was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She possessed an unequaled tenacity in her relentless pursuit of details, and she was a gracious hostess who loved cooking and baking for family and friends. Until the end of her life, Doris was admired for her blue eyes and her well-coiffed hair. By her own description, Doris had a life of no regrets particularly because of a happy childhood, a wonderful marriage, a dutiful and loving son, and two wonderful grandsons. Her family takes much comfort in having been in her company to celebrate her 97th birthday in September. The family acknowledges the professionalism and compassionate caring displayed by the ICU doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital (Bethlehem) ICU unit.
