Scranton Prep’s team of Lily Lengyel and Emma Cuck, and Abington Heights’ pairing of Amishi Amit and Sammy Rosenstein, won their respective District 2 Doubles Championship matches on Friday at Kirby Park.
Both teams advance to the PIAA Championships that start Oct. 31 at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Lengyel and Cuck, who helped lead the Classics to the District 2 Class 2A team title while playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, had a pair of wins in straight sets to capture the gold medals.
In the semifinals, Lengyel-Cuck defeated Dallas’ Catlin Finn and Mahi Dohl, 6-0, 6-2. They captured the title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Montrose’s team of Anna Evans and Erin Tillotson.
Scranton Prep’s team advances to the PIAA Tournament. It is also the third straight time that Lengyel has won a District 2 Doubles title. She teamed with Alyssa Wigley to capture the tournaments in 2023 and 2024.
Evans, a freshman, and Tillotson defeated Scranton Prep’s second semifinal team of Adithi Velaga and Hannah LaCoe, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the final.
In Class 3A, it was an all-Abington Heights final in doubles, just as it was in the singles tournament.
Amit, who finished as the runner-up to teammate Sona Hanumali in the singles final, and Rosenstein, the No. 3 singles player all season for the Lady Comets, defeated Kate Arp and Elsie Phillips, 6-1, 6-4.
The two Abington Heights teams earned their spots in the final with hard-fought three-set wins in the semifinals.
Amit-Rosenstein defeated Wallenpaupack’s team of Victoria Latek and Addy Ezzo, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Arp and Phillips beat North Pocono’s team of Anna Clementoni and Cam Forgione, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
All four Lady Comets players were important contributors to Abington Heights winning the District 2 Class 3A team championship.
