OBITUARY

Janet L. (Hartzell) Hill, 78, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025 at Good Shepard Hospice Center in Lakeland, FL after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Warren J Hill of Kutztown, PA.

In addition to her husband, Janet is also survived by: daughter Heather (Hill) Mayer and her domestic partner Ernie Stump of Virginville, PA; son Ryan Hill and his wife Erin of Boxford, MA; five grandchildren Nathan Mayer, Marley Mayer, Alexandra Hill, Charlotte Hill, and Ryan H Hill; as well as sister Rita Hartzell; brothers Chipper and Rocky Hartzell and stepmother Mabel Hartzell. She is preceded in death by her brother Kirby Hartzell.

Janet was born in Reading, PA on July 28, 1947 to the late Harold R Hartzell and Esther M Hartzell. Janet graduated from Governor Mifflin High School in 1965.

She retired in 2002 after more than 20 years at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies/ Agere Systems in Reading, PA. Since that time, she has helped to satisfy her boundless energy with several jobs including: starting her own dog-grooming and sitting business; facilities management at Valley View and Urban Acres; driving the resident shuttle for The Highlands in Wyomissing, PA; and more recently delivering vehicles for Greenwood Chevrolet in Fort Meade, FL.

Janet loved life. She lived every day to the fullest right to the end. Her passion for ice cream and for buying new cars was surpassed only by her love of family and friends. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Janet was a devoted grandmother; taking every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and being an active part of their lives. Always the life of the party, Janet really enjoyed spending time with friends sharing laughs and creating lasting memories. Her energy, zest for life, humor, and her love will be missed by so many.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday December 27 at 2PM with service beginning at 3PM at Shillington Church of Christ 475 Philadelphia Ave Shillington, PA 19607. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
