ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A man was sentenced Tuesday for causing a fatal crash while under the influence in Allentown back in 2022.

Shaba Xavier Hill, 26, of Allentown, pleaded guilty on Oct. 22, 2025 to a felony charge of Homicide by Vehicle while Driving Under the Influence and a misdemeanor charge of Driving Under the Influence of Controlled Substances – Combination of Alcohol and Drugs.

Hill was sentenced Tuesday in a hearing to serve 5 to 10 years in prison, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say at 5:47 a.m. Oct. 30, 2022, Allentown Police were called to Springhouse Road and Springwood Drive for a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers found a Subaru Outlook idling on the right curbside of Springhouse Road.

A victim, later identified as John C. Nick, was laying just north of the pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Springwood Drive, according to police.

Nick, 77, of Allentown, died of multiple blunt force Injuries due to the collision and his death was ruled accidental by the Lehigh County Coroner.

Hill was identified as the driver and officers on scene say they noticed he had the odor of marijuana and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Court documents say blood results for Hill showed the presence of methamphetamine and cannabinoids and an alcohol level of 0.144 percent.
