Erie County is getting over $1.1 million to replace the Bell St. Bridge state lawmakers announced Tuesday.

The funding, from Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, will help rebuild the bridge connecting Wesleyville Borough and Lawrence Park Township.

Local leaders say the project will improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists while boosting neighborhood access and economic activity. State Representatives Bob Merski and Pat Harkins, along with Senator Dan Laughlin, praised the investment, calling it a win for the community. They highlighted the bridge’s importance as a link between schools, businesses and neighborhoods.

Construction will also create local jobs and ensure the corridor serves the area for years to come.

The Bell Street Bridge project is one of 54 statewide receiving funding through the program, which supports transportation improvements that enhance safety and connectivity.
