PennDOT Lifts Vehicle Restrictions on Interstates; Speed Limit Reductions Still in Place

Vehicle restrictions will be in place on Pennsylvania interstates starting Friday morning as snow, sleet and freezing rain move across the state, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Restrictions begin at 10 a.m. Friday for western interstates and expand to eastern interstates by 2 p.m.

Tier 3 vehicle restrictions will go into effect at 10 a.m. for:

ALL Pennsylvania interstates west of I-81 including:

The same vehicle restrictions are slated to go into effect at 2 p.m. for:

Commercial vehicles, buses and trailers are among those restricted, with speed limits reduced to 45 mph for all vehicles.

Northeast Pennsylvania could see up to 8 inches of snow, while icy conditions are expected elsewhere, according to PennDOT.

Crews will pre-treat roads, but icy spots may still form, especially on bridges and ramps.

Last winter, Pennsylvania saw over 8,000 crashes on icy roads.
