On December 24, 2025, State Police Troop T with the assistance of the Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Latham arrested Shaheem T. Sanders, 23 Schenectady, Thaj E. Sobers, 23 Schenectady, and a 17-year-old for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd, a class “A” felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a class “B” felony.

Sanders and Sobers were also charged with violations of vehicle and traffic laws.

On December 24, 2025, at approximately 3:03 a.m. troopers from Troop T stopped a northbound vehicle on I-87 Thruway in Bethlehem for vehicle and traffic law violations. The driver was identified as Sanders, and the passengers as Sobers and a 17-year-old. Further investigation with the assistance of State Police K9 Ash discovered nearly three pounds of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and a large amount of U.S. currency in the vehicle.

All three were arrested and transported to SP Albany for processing. The 17-year-old was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Albany County Youth Part Court and released to a guardian. Sanders and Sobers were arraigned at the Bethlehem Town Court, where they were remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
