While four teams are still battling it out on the diamond to determine the 2025 MLB World Series champion, the Philadelphia Phillies could be drastically changing their roster leading up to next season, and that starts with one of the NL East’s veteran superstars.

According to Phillies beat writer Matt Geib, the Phillies will likely attempt to trade or potentially release veteran power hitter Nick Castellanos after bringing him to Philadelphia in 2022 from the Cincinnati Reds.

Castellanos signed a five-year, $100 million deal with the Phillies that offseason and ultimately played a big role in the team’s World Series run in 2022. However, despite consistently reaching the playoffs regularly since his arrival, Castellanos and Co. haven’t been able to get over their title hump.

While the Phillies appear to be in the mode of making changes, the franchise might also be moving on from other top players during the offseason, including franchise cornerstone Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, who is coming off of his best season as a professional after hitting over 50 home runs.
