ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh County District attorney’s office says the Pennsylvania Attorney General will now be prosecuting two Allentown police officers accused of sex crimes on the job.

In 2024, retired officer Jason Krasley and current officer Evan Weaver were charged with numerous sex crimes allegedly involving prostitutes while working in the APD Vice Squad.

Krasley is also accused of allegedly stealing more than $5000 of drug money during a police raid.

According to a news release, the DA’s office says it asked the AG to take over the of the sex crimes prosecutions because:

“There was a potential conflict of interest in our office and when those issues arise, in full transparency, we ask an outside agency to determine if a conflict of interest exists,” read a statement from the DA. “”The Office of the Attorney General has accepted our referral.”

DA Spokesperson Pam Lehman says the office will not comment about the nature of the potential conflict of interest.

But on page 10 of a whistle blower lawsuit filed by two other officers alleging they were retaliated against for reporting sex crimes by members of APD’s Vice Squad, now-First Assistant District Attorney Eric Dowdle’s name is mentioned as formerly representing a woman making claims against an APD officer.

That lawsuit was withdrawn so that it can be re-filed in federal court.

The city of Allentown had previously said the lawsuit is without merit.

From the beginning, both Krasley and Weaver have maintained their innocence.

It’s unclear what the AG taking over on the sex crime charges will do to the trial timeline.

The DA’s office says it will continue to prosecute Krasley’s theft charge.
