An investigation is underway after an eight to ten-foot sinkhole opened up Friday night in Blakely. Residents have been allowed to stay as the hole is being filled.

BLAKELY, Pa. — An investigation is underway into a sinkhole that opened up Friday night in Lackawanna County.

The hole opened up just before midnight along 5th Street in the Blakely borough.

Crews were on scene pulling out a car that fell into the hole.

While there is a nearby mine site, officials have not said whether the hole is connected to it.

Officials say the hole stretched across eight to ten feet of the road.

Residents along 5th Street are allowed to stay.

The hole is now being filled, and a water line is being repaired.
