On Sunday at 1:09 p.m. the National Weather Service released a lake effect snow warning valid from Monday 10 a.m. until Tuesday 4 p.m. for Southern Erie and Crawford County.

“Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph,” states the weather service. “The heaviest snow is expected late Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. Snowfall rates will exceed 1 inch per hour at times.”

“Whiteout conditions are possible and could make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage,” describes the weather service. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel.”
