MIDDLETOWN — Led by the first-place showings of the highly-touted freshmen Baldino brothers, the improved Allentown High wrestling team put together a solid showing in its season debut on Sunday in the Walter Woods Holiday Tournament at the Middletown South High School.

Allentown finished sixth with 129.5 points in the 13-team tournament that was won by Toms River South with 189 points. West Essex was second and host Middletown South was third.

Dominic Baldino won the 106-pound weight class by going 3-0 on the day, including a pin of Logan Maestrey of Toms River South in a time of 1:01 in his final. Vincenzo Baldino is also 3-0 after he posted an 11-7 decision over James Bonardi of Livingston in the 120-pound championship match.

It was a team effort by the Redbirds as they scored in a lot of weights. Taking thirds for Allentown were Anderson Du Brul at 138 pounds, Stephen Moore at 165 and Nathaniel Geddis at 190. Allentown also got for fourths from Mateo Frisina (144) and heavyweight Nicholas Laquara.

Allentown will wrestle for the first time in a dual match when it travels to Steinert for a quad meet on Saturday.

FLEMINGTON — Notre Dame’s outstanding 215-pounder Ivan Yultukhovskyi won an individual title in the nation’s oldest holiday tournament when he pinned Dimos Maroulis of Voorhees in a time of a 1:02 in the finals.
