A two-alarm garage fire drew fire companies from Berks and Schuylkill counties to Hamburg over the weekend.

Crews were dispatched shortly before noon Saturday to the structure fire at North Fourth and Island streets.

A Hamburg Fire Company deputy chief established command and reported a downed Met-Ed line that knocked out power to hundreds of customers.

Crews put multiple hand lines in service to control the fire.

Fire police closed Fourth Street between State and Franklin streets as apparatus from other companies poured in.

Responders had to deal with icy surfaces. The borough road department workers spread salt and antiskid materials at the request of the fire department.

Information on the extent of damages and cause of the fire was unavailable.
