Lackawanna League wrestlers earned milestones during the holiday wrestling tournaments over the past few days, as Scranton’s Drew Leonori, Wallenpaupack’s Gio Lomonaco and Honesdale’s Saige Olver reached 100 career victories.
Leonori went 2-0 in the opening rounds of the Frank Wadas Memorial tournament to secure his 100th and 101st career victories Monday at Tunkhannock High School.
The Scranton senior advanced to the 133-pound semifinals where he will face Lackawanna Trail’s Riley Borruso on Tuesday.
Leonori has a 101-31 career record, and is a two-time District 2 Class 3A bronze medalist and a 2025 Northeast Regional six-place finisher — one place from making the state tournament.
Lomonaco (133) went 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament on Monday at Jim Thorpe High School. He will face Wyalusing Valley Area’s Cole Patrick on Tuesday.
The Wallenpaupack senior and Times-Tribune All-Region wrestler is 101-38 in his career and captured a district title last season.
Olver (124) went 4-2 to place fifth and reach her milestone Sunday at the Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan High School. The Honesdale senior, two-time All-Region wrestler and 2024 Times-Tribune Wrestler of the Year is a two-time state medalist (third and eighth), a Central Regional champion and silver medalist and a two-time district champion.
Bethlehem Holiday Classic
Nathan Schuman placed third at 114 pounds to lead Honesdale to a 15th-place finish at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic at Bethlehem Liberty High School.
Bobby MacDowell (285) placed fourth, Duke Martin (189) and Levi Landry (215) finished fifth and Justin Scanlan took eighth for the Hornets.
Tommy Schechterly (172) secured fourth place to lead West Scranton to a 20th-place finish. Santino Aniska (121) and Connor Lagier (127) each finished sixth for the Invaders.
Zion Colon (114) and Jeremiah Segal (189) each finished eighth as Delaware Valley placed 26th.
Frank Wadas Memorial
North Pocono’s Antonio Cintron (145) advanced to the semifinals, as the Trojans are in seventh place.
Montrose’s Sawyer Brander (107) and Wyatt Steele (152) advanced to the semifinals, as the Meteors are in eighth place.
Besides Leonori, Austin Gottstein (285) is in the semifinals for Scranton, which sits in 11th place.
Lackawanna Trail’s Cidney Schaffer (107), Matthew Shafer (114) and Riley Borruso (133) advanced to the semifinals, as the Lions are in 13th.
Elk Lake’s Ben Hillier (172), Colby Ruark (215), Nathaniel Thurman (285) and Ethan Smith (285) advanced to the semifinals, as the Warriors are in 14th.
Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament
Wallenpaupack’s Ayden Blaut (127), Gio Lomonaco (133), Tristan Braxton (160) and Gabe Caufield (172) advanced to the semifinals, as the Buckhorns are tied for first place after Day 1 of the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament at Jim Thorpe High School.
Valley View’s Tywone Giles (152) advanced to the semifinals, as the Cougars are tied for 15th.
Girls Powerade
Maddison Miller (142) placed fourth to lead Honesdale to a 19th-place finish at the Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan on Sunday. Olver (124) placed fifth for the Lady Hornets.
