The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning at 2:22 a.m. on Tuesday in effect until Thursday at 7 p.m. for Northern Erie.
“Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph through tonight,” can be expected according to the weather service. “Initial round of lake effect snow will bring an additional 2 to 3 inches of snowfall through tonight. Another impactful period of heavy lake effect snow will begin this evening and continue through Thursday evening. Snowfall amounts during this timeframe will range between 8 and 12 inches.”
“Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches,” states the weather service. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel.”
