The first “No Kings” protest was held on June 14 of this year to coincide with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary parade.

On Saturday, people gathered again at the intersection of Freemansburg Avenue & Emrick Boulevard in Bethlehem Township for a “No Kings,” demonstration organized by volunteers to voice their constitutional right to protest under the First Amendment.

It was just one of several other protests happening in the Lehigh Valley on the same day, as millions around the country gathered to protest the Trump administration.

Similar protests were held in Allentown outside the office of Republican Congressman Ryan Mackenzie’s office. Bethlehem held one at the Bethlehem Rose Garden, hosted by INDIVISIBLE Lehigh Valley Bethlehem. Easton held on at Centre Square and in Phillipsburg, people occupied the Phillipsburg Pedestrian Bridge on Hillcrest and Route 22 West, organized by Warren County Action Together NJ.

“This is what democracy looks like,” and “Hey Hey, Ho Ho, Donald Trump has got to go,” protesters chanted.

Plenty of signs were on display opposing Trump’s actions, policies, including immigration crackdowns, expansion of executive power, the erosion of democratic institutions and the militarizing of cities.

The strategy behind “No Kings” events is for Americans to peacefully demonstrate that there are no thrones, crowns or kings in America, said organizers.
