BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Kutztown Borough woman is accused of shooting her husband in the head during an argument on Tuesday, with a 10-year-old in their home upstairs.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, dispatch was called by a 46-year-old woman claiming she had just shot her husband, according to a news release.

The Berks County District Attorney noted in the release that, when authorities arrived at the home on the 400 block of West Walnut Street, they found William Kelly, 53, dead in the dining room after being shot in the head.

The detective’s office said that, as a result of a joint investigation with Kutztown police, Elizabeth McKenna, 46, was identified as the alleged shooter. During an interview with McKenna, she reportedly told investigators that she and Kelly were arguing, and he began antagonizing her. She responded by going to her second-floor bedroom, getting a handgun from a safe, and shooting Kelly at close range.

Authorities said McKenna then placed the gun on the dining room table and called 911.

During the investigation, a 10-year-old child was found to be in a room upstairs during the shooting, the district attorney’s office announced. He was unharmed.
