WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A water main break in Whitehall closed roads and caused problems on New Year’s Eve.

Lehigh County communication officials confirm the break was called in on Fifth Street (just north of Grape Street) shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Municipal crews were on scene, with traffic being diverted away from Fifth and Grape streets.

The pipe broke in the 900 block of Fifth Street, near Grape Street. Salt trucks have been requested in that area.

As of around 10:45 p.m., Fifth and Grape streets, as well as Fifth and Jefferson streets, were closed.
