A year ago at this time, Cole Norris was the quarterback at Amherst and was about to be a finalist for the Matt Whilhelm Award, which goes to The Morning Journal’s football player of the year.

Now he’s the quarterback at Walsh University and making an impact.

Norris ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as visiting Cavaliers held on a for 20-13 win over Lake Erie College.

Norris ran 8 yards for a score in the first quarter but the Storm (1-6) answered with two Enrique Olmos field goals that cut the lead to 7-6 late the third quarter.

The Cavaliers (5-2) took a 13-6 lead on a Norris-to-Jake Gill 10-yard score late in the third then Norris scored on a 3-yard run for a 20-6 advantage early in the fourth.

Brady Clark’s 10-yard scoring pass to Keyshawn Johnson made it a seven-point game at 20-13 but LEC could not get the equalizer.

Norris finished the game 16 of 16 passing for 151 yards and no interceptions and had 35 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Clark was 23 of 35 for 262 yards.

In 2024 as an Amherst senior, Norris rushed for 1,259 yards, and passed for 1,535 yards.
