Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and return man Raheem Blackshear has signed to the New York Jets practice squad. This is his first team since the Steelers released him back on October 28, though he has been hosted by multiple teams for tryouts.
Known as ‘speedy’ when he played at Archbishop Wood in Warminster, Pennsylvania, Blackshear was brought in by the Steelers to help ease the Steelers’ concerns at kick returner when rookie Kaleb Johnson struggling to take to that part of the game.
Blackshear has 52 rushes for 203 yards and three touchdowns across 41 NFL games. He has 66 career kick returns and 23 career punt returns over his three NFL seasons.
Blackshear was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in the 2022 NFL Draft. He originally signed with the Buffalo Bills before the Carolina Panthers snapped him up. Blackshear spent 2022 through 2024 with the Panthers organization before joining the Tennessee Titans this season.
Now, he could have a chance to showcase what he can do wit the Jets over the final week of the season to earn a future’s contract with the team and push for a roster spot during the offseason process in 2026.
