Vella Byrne of Scranton was the girls winner, while Connor Moore from Riverside captured the boys race at the Vince Fedor Junior High Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Byrne covered the 1.9-mile course at Dunmore High School in 11:30.0. That was 24.9 seconds ahead of Katie Kilker from Honesdale.

Kilker’s effort helped Honesdale win the Class AA team title with 28 points.

Abington Heights bunched its first five runners between 12th and 17th place to take the Class 3A team title with 30 points. Lackawanna Trail was the Class 1A champ with 51 points. Its top finisher was Peyton Swartzfager in 14th place.

Meanwhile, Moore won in 10:50.3 to help lead Riverside to a Class 1A boys team title with 30 points.

Jack Stopper from Abington Heights placed second, 24.2 seconds behind Moore. Teammate Dylan Spatz was third as Abington Heights had five of the top eight finishers to claim Class 3A honors with 18 points.

Mid Valley won the Class 2A team title with 22 points. Top finisher was Carl Weber in 10th place.

At Western Wayne, Maci Lazorchak and Makenzie Chearney each had two goals to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 5-0 victory over Blue Ridge in a Lackawanna League girls soccer match Saturday.

Khloe Mistishin added a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Delany Kaub made two saves to earn the shutout.
