Four consecutive pins, a major decision and a loss by technical fall.
It all added up to another Bethlehem Catholic victory in the Holy War with Notre Dame-Green Pond.
Nico Emili, A.J. Gomez, Jack Cole and Andre Cerrato produced the falls from 121 pounds through 139 for the Golden Hawks, who have won the last five meetings since the series resumed in 2023.
Mason Thomas, for the second year in a row, delivered a pivotal major decision — this time at 172.
That forced the Crusaders to produce three pins to win on criteria.
But James Bozzi gave up six takedowns but stayed off his back to lose at 215 by technical fall to Connor Smalley. That kept the Golden Hawks up by seven with one bout left.
Notre Dame-GP was without starters Aiden Vanicky and Jacob Volpe.
The Crusaders started strong by getting bonus-point wins at 107 and 114 by Max Quarry and Cael Muller, respectively. The two didn’t allow an offensive point.
Bethlehem Catholic gained its first momentum of the night when Emili reversed Cole Schwartz after a lengthy scramble and pinned the Notre Dame-GP freshman in 3:38. The two had a long scramble earlier in the bout with neither producing a point before Emili produced the big move.
Golden Hawks sophomore Gomez followed by turning Trey Neith in 4:58 for their first lead, 12-9.
Cole followed with a third consecutive pin, again coming shortly after reversing Mason Roncolato at 139 for an 18-9 Bethlehem Catholic advantage. Cerrato’s headlock of Tyler Coad pushed the cushion to 25 (24-9) after six.
Gavyn Kelton stopped the bleeding for Notre Dame-GP, but just barely. His five-point move early in the third period was the difference in a 7-4 win over Reef Dillard, but not until Dillard’s headlock at the edge of the mat was declared after the buzzer.
Keanu Dillard pushed Bethlehem Catholic’s lead to 30-12 after eight with a fall at 152.
Jared Gonzalez kept Notre Dame-GP’s chances alive with a 9-0 major at 160, but Bethlehem Catholic still led 30-16.
Thomas’ major decision at 172 forced the Crusaders to produce three falls.
Dom Sumpolec delivered the first one in 1:21 at 189, but Smalley couldn’t put Bozzi on his back. Smalley took him down six times in a 21-4 technical fall to pull Notre Dame-GP within seven with one bout left.
