O’Connor, greeted by his staff and cabinet members, talked about his excitement for his new role and the future of the city. “Thank you for joining us on this journey. Some of you I’ve known for a very, very long time. But it’s an exciting time in Pittsburgh, and I think we build off the momentum of today. But we get started right away,” O’Connor said. O’Connor also attended the 144th inauguration of the city council, where four members, including newcomer Kim Salintero of District 2, were sworn in. He mentioned that his inauguration speech would be emotional, as his late father, Bob O’Connor, also served as mayor.O’Connor said his focus is on making Pittsburgh stronger moving forward. “It’s about families. It’s about getting back to the basics, but it’s also about safety and growing our city, growing it for, you know, new residents to come in, but also new businesses. You know, the more we grow Pittsburgh, the better we all are,” he said.The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday.
