PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Motorists traveling through Pittston will encounter an overnight detour this week due to a temporary closure of part of Route 11.

PennDOT officials say a section of Route 11, also known as North Main Street, will be partially closed overnight on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, as crews conduct test drilling to locate underground utilities. The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. the following morning.

During the overnight work, traffic will be detoured onto Kennedy Boulevard before being routed back onto Main Street. Drivers are encouraged to plan for minor delays and follow posted detour signs.

Officials are reminding motorists to use caution when traveling through work zones by obeying posted speed limits, keeping headlights on, watching for signage and flaggers, and minimizing distractions. In areas with heavier traffic, drivers are also advised to use both lanes up to the merge point and alternate when merging into the open lane.

The work is weather-dependent and part of ongoing infrastructure preparations in the area.
