Francis P. Talarico
OBITUARY
Francis P. Talarico, 90, died Wednesday December 24, 2025, at St. Mary ‘s Villa Nursing Home. A lifelong man of his faith he lived a life marked by commitment to country, community, and the Catholic Church.
Born in Scranton, he was the son the late James and Helen Olcheski Talarico. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and attended the University of Scranton. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and spent an 18 month tour in Turkey.
Following his military service, he began a successful and distinguished career at the Library of Congress, in Washington, D.C., where he was employed until his retirement.
Following retirement, Francis returned to his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he remained an active and devoted member of the church community. Francis was a loving son, caring brother, beloved uncle, and devoted friend, known for his quiet wisdom. He believed deeply in the value of education, lifelong learning, and the preservation of knowledge.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Thomas, Florida, Mary Phipps, North Carolina; three brothers, Michael Talarico, South Carolina, John Talarico, Lake Ariel, Paul Talarico, Honesdale.
Francis will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews for his worldly advice and entertaining dry sense of humor.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Dennis Talarico, Anthony Talarico, Thomas Talarico, Vincent Talarico, Joseph Talarico and James Talarico.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 12 pm in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and Friends may pay their respects Friday from 11 am until time of Mass in the church.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave. Scranton.
