Christina Vogel will serve as the new Erie County Executive, following a swear-in ceremony at the Erie County Courthouse.

“It’s an accumulation of a lot of work, a lot of hours,” said Vogel.  “I’m excited to start.”

Erie News Now asked Vogel what her top priorities for the county are moving forward.

“Just starting out, a couple of simple things I want to improve the lives of the people of the county,” said Vogel.  “I want to reuse the land over in Fairview and Girard that’s just been sitting for three years and then work on trying to fix the little homes because those have been sitting there for nine months at least.  Just trying to set the county working for the people.”

Vogel also plans to improve transparency while working with Erie County Council members on future initiatives.

“When I went through and was meeting with every single department, I would ask them who their liaison was for county council,” said Vogel.  “Did they meet them?  How can we improve that relationship?  So that’s something I’m really committed to as well.”

We asked Vogel is she plans on making any department changes.

“We are bringing in a couple of interim directors and so we are going to start looking for permanent replacements,” said Vogel.  “Right now, we just wanted to have some time to look at the finance department and IT department and so those are interim positions currently.”

Vogel expressed gratitude towards her supporters.

“Thank you,” said Vogel.  “I really can’t say it enough.  I am so humbled and honored to have been chosen, and I am looking forward to working for the people.”
