Several Berks County-area housing stability projects were among 110 projects awarded funding through the Home4Good program in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia.

The regional initiative supports housing stability for individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes, and is administered by FHLBank Pittsburgh in partnership with state housing finance agencies.

Spring Township-based Discovery Federal Credit Union is a participant in the program, which awarded funding to the following Reading and Berks County organizations to support homelessness prevention and diversion efforts:

• PA 211 East, which received $50,000 to support 2-1-1 Homeless Prevention and Diversion services

• New Journey Community Outreach, which received $65,000 for The Community Table Meal Program

• Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, which received $75,000 for the Berks Rapid Diversion Program

• Reading/Berks County Continuum of Care Administration, which received $10,000

“These funds translate directly into stability, dignity, and hope for our neighbors,” Michele Smith, president and CEO of Discovery Federal Credit Union, said in a statement. “As a member-owned credit union, we believe housing stability is foundational to financial well-being. Home4Good allows us to support trusted local organizations doing life-changing work in the community we serve.”

In 2025, the program awarded a total of $8.4 million to 110 housing stability projects across the three states. FHLBank Pittsburgh committed $6 million to the initiative, with an additional $2.4 million contributed by housing finance agencies in the three-state region, according to a press release.

Across the three-state region, the Home4Good program received 116 applications in 2025 and was able to fund nearly all of them, according to the release, “reflecting both the growing need for housing support and the strength of collaboration among financial institutions, housing agencies, and nonprofit partners.”

According to information on the FHL Bank website, block grant style funding is offered through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. Home4Good works with existing Continuum of Care organizations and the homeless service provider network in each state. Service organizations are encouraged to reach out to their local Continuum of Care organization regarding funding for 2026.

FHLBank members can participate in the 2026 initiative by submitting a member support form to indicate their support for projects in their area. Awards will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Discovery Federal Credit Union said it will continue to support the Home4Good program in 2026.
