Robert P. ‘Bob’ Theis
OBITUARY
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert P. Bob Theis, 86, of Scranton, PA, on December 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Scranton, Bob was a beloved father, brother, uncle, coach, and friend whose generosity, intellect, and dedication to his community touched countless lives.
Bob was a proud graduate of Scranton Technical High School, where he was recognized for both his academic excellence and exceptional athletic ability. An outstanding athlete, he was a standout on the football and basketball teams and earned widespread respect for his leadership, determination, and sportsmanship. He later went on to attend the University of Scranton, where he continued his football career until it was ended by an injury to his eye. Though this setback was life-altering, Bob met it with remarkable strength, redirecting his passion into his studies and his commitment to helping others.
His love of learning and desire to make a lasting difference led to a distinguished 25-year career at Penn State University. Bob was instrumental in building and managing the operations of the Worthington Scranton campus, helping to establish the foundation for generations of students to pursue their education close to home. He was widely respected as a dedicated professional, mentor, and trusted leader whose influence is still felt today.
Outside of his career, Bob embraced life fully. He was an avid golfer who treasured time on the course with friends, enjoying both the challenge of the game and the friendships it fostered. The ocean held a special place in his heart, and he found deep peace at the shore, where he created countless cherished memories.
Bob is survived by his children, Robert Jr. (and his wife, Kelly) and Lisa Limongelli, and by his four adored grandchildren, Griffin, Mia, Cameron, and Brady. He is also survived by his brother Joseph, his sisters Marie and Kathleen, and by his ten nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Walter; his mother, Eleanore; his sister, Anne; his niece, Melissa; and his nephew Sean.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held 10 am on Saturday 31, 2026 at Mary Mother of God Parish Holy Rosary church – 316 Williams Street, Scranton PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roberts memory to the Boys & Girls Clubs of NEPA (www.bgcnepa.org) an organization that had a tremendous impact on Bobs life as a young boy and helped shape the values he carried throughout his lifetime.
Robert P. Theis will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, optimism, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
