Scranton police made an arrest overnight in connection with a reported attempted abduction in South Scranton Monday, according to a release.

The arrest follows the attempted abduction in the 500 block of East Elm Street and in front of the South Scranton Intermediate School Monday morning, police said.

Following that attempt, police announced they were looking for a suspect wearing a black face mask and announced an increased police presence at all district schools throughout the day.

Hours later, police announced they had located a Hyundai Elantra with tinted windows, they believed were involved in the attempted abduction and had been reported stolen from the 500 block of Cedar Avenue.

School officials also encouraged parents and guardians to pick up students on time and, if possible, walk their children home during Monday’s dismissal.

In response to the release which posted to Facebook, dozens of parents responded with gratitude for the department’s quick response in keeping students safe.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and did not name a suspect in the release Monday morning.
