On Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon, Bethlehem United Methodist Church (BUMC) in Moneta will join the national effort ‘Rise Against Hunger’ and take a day to help feed the hungry. BUMC has set a goal to prepare 10,000 meals and is looking for volunteers and donations to help achieve the mission.

‘Rise Against Hunger’ works in countries worldwide to fight hunger, targeting communities facing high rates of food insecurity.

BUMC will have small teams working together to bag products—measuring out rice, soy and dehydrated vegetables. The bags will be heat sealed then moved to the packing tables where labels are affixed. Next, the bags will be placed on a gridded mat to easily know how many fit in a box, then transferred to a packing box, taped up and moved to a pallet.

You can participate by donating, working or both.

To participate as one of BUMC’s 100 volunteers, go online to events.riseagainsthunger.org/BethlehemMoneta2026 and register. Scroll down the page until you reach the form to fill out the necessary information.

You can also use this link to make a monetary donation.

Volunteers ages two and up are welcome. The youngest only needs to be able to count to two and fill up the grid at the packing tables. Those who prefer seated jobs can volunteer at the bagging tables, while others can help move materials around the room.

“It will be fun to work together with other people to help meet the great goal of reaching the 10,000 mark to feed the hungry,” said Karen Debord with BUMC.Â
