Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro has $30 million for his reelection bid, a new state record

Thank you. Thank you. You know, I, I may be *** Birds fan, but I was riding that roller coaster last night with all of you. Thank you for the kind introduction, and it is so special to be here with all of you today, and I want you to know as the 48th governor of the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I bring the hopes and the prayers of 13 million Pennsylvanians with me today. As we prepare to swear in the next mayor, the sixty-second mayor of the city of Pittsburgh, Corey O’Connor. I’m here today both because of my affection for Corey but also because we understand that *** strong and safe and successful Pittsburgh is essential to *** prosperous Pennsylvania. My governing partner, *** native son of Western Pennsylvania, is here with us today. Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis joins us to celebrate this new era of leadership. Thank you for being with us. And while he’s my partner in progress in Pennsylvania, my partner in life since the 9th grade is here because she knows just how important Corey O’Connor’s success is to the future of this Commonwealth, the First Lady of Pennsylvania, Laurie Shapiro. And I want to recognize the fact that we’re joined here today by so many elected leaders in the General Assembly and the Congress of the United States, statewide leaders from across Pennsylvania, as well as many leaders from the General Assembly, including your very own leader Jay Costa. These are leaders from the city. From the city of Pittsburgh, from the region and from across the state, and I hope you recognize that their presence here today in this grand hall sends *** very clear message of both the importance of this day. And the importance of seeing Pittsburgh succeed because when Pittsburgh succeeds our entire Commonwealth does as well. Each of the mayors who came before have recognized that they have served this city and they have picked up the baton from those who came before them. They’ve tried to run forward and to leave this city better than how they found it. To that end, I want to take *** moment this afternoon to thank Mayor Ed Gainey for his service to the city of Pittsburgh. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. And so now the task falls to you, Mr. Mayor-elect, to pick up the baton and to run forward. I know this is *** proud day for you and especially for Katie and for Molly and for Emmett. Emmett’s got *** lot of stuff in his pockets he’s been picking up along with that pirate’s booty today. We know that public service is *** noble profession. I know the folks here agree with that. We also know that public service is *** family commitment, and Katie, I wanna thank you for your family’s commitment to making sure Corey could serve us as your mayor. So today you begin to write the next chapter in the story of this great city, and I know it is going to be *** good one. You can feel it when you talk to people in this city. There’s this feeling of optimism, this feeling of hope, optimism and hope in *** city where every single Yinzer has the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed, *** city that is safe and affordable and prosperous where. Kids have *** shot at success beyond their parents and grandparents’ wildest dreams, you know, optimism and hope they’re the most powerful forces in our society. Optimism and hope can help us unlock great possibility. We can unlock that optimism and hope. By making progress that people can see in their day to day lives, something I know the mayor will do. And Mr. Mayor, with your hard work and with your vision, with the skills that you have shown throughout your career to be able to bring people together to get stuff done, I know you can build on the progress made by those who came before you and chart an even brighter future for this city. I know. I know you are motivated every day to make meaningful progress that makes *** difference in people’s lives, and I’m confident you will achieve that. So as you take this oath of office today, know that you have *** city that’s cheering you on, that is hopeful about our future and *** Commonwealth that is rooting for your success. Know that you have *** governor who will be your partner in progress. Know that you have *** family that stands with you, willing to make sacrifices so that you can serve, and know that you’ve got parents who are smiling down on you. Knowing that the unfinished business that they left behind now has *** skilled steward to carry it forward. Mr. Mayor, I believe that you are the embodiment of that hope that you wish for for every single parent and grandparent here in Pittsburgh. In your hands, Mayor Connor, the future of Pittsburgh is bright. I wish you Godspeed as you pick up the baton and carry it forward. Good luck, my friend.
