READING., Pa. – The Berks County Commissioners on Thursday officially voted to appoint Laura Jones as the county’s chief financial officer, effective Jan. 16.
Jones is the replacement for long-time CFO Robert Patrizio, whose retirement is effective the same date.
Jones was anticipated to be appointed CFO, as this past August the commissioners promoted her to interim chief financial officer from deputy director of budget and finance.
As CFO, Jones will be paid an annual salary of $154,940.
Jones received high praise from the commissioners during the 2026 budget preparation throughout the fall.
Commissioner Christian Y. Leinbach said it has been exciting to see Jones go through the journey in the finance department.
He also noted she has the distinction of being the first female CFO for the county.
In another vote, the commissioners authorized the appointment of Michael J. Simmons, Wyomissing, to the Reading Area Community College Board of Trustees to fill an unexpired term ending on June 30, 2031.
The commissions also noted some recent deaths:
James P. Troutman, who died Jan. 6, was the former county clerk of courts for numerous years.
Paul Janssen, who died Jan. 7, was recently retired from being the director for the Center for Excellence in Local Government; a role he held since 2012.
Pamela Jean Barnhardt, who died Dec. 24, was a former employee of the county, but also the wife Kevin S. Barnhardt, Chief Administrative Officer.
The commissioners praised all three individuals for their commitment and service to the county and their communities and offered condolences to the families.
