Mark J. Straneva, age 64, of Erie, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday January 8, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on April 30, 1961, in Erie, son of the late Andrew and Mary Ann Straneva.
He leaves behind cherished memories of his warm smile and warm heart, and a legacy of dedication to serving others. For 35 years, he proudly worked at Arby’s, where his friendly face and roast beef sandwiches brought joy to countless customers. His passion for fishing was only matched by his love for his family, and he cherished every moment spent on the water. He was a lifetime member of the Erie Power Squadron, where he enjoyed sharing his love of boating and safety with others. He was also a proud member of the Siebenbuerger Club where he cherished his heritage and camaraderie with fellow members.
He is survived by his loving family; brother, John and his wife Mary Ann Straneva; four nieces, Mary Lou (John) McCall, Chrissy Vroman, Julie (Steve) Andersen and Karen (Dan) Cruz; great-nieces, Stephanie (Matt Jr.) Stoops, Kelly (Taylor ) Rollins-McCall, Erin (Jordan) Manson, Nicole and MacKenzie Vroman, Gracie Andersen, Sophia Marzka and Isabella Cruz; great-nephew, Victor Andersen and great-great-nephew Matthew Stoops III.
Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory (Pine Ave Branch) 845 East 38th St. Erie, PA 16504, On Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday morning at 9:15 AM, followed a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 516 East 13th St. Erie, PA 16503. Interment will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
