Lindsay Little Haman

OBITUARY

Lindsay Little Haman died on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Reading Hospital from complications due to pneumonia. He had just celebrated his 102nd birthday surrounded by his family a few weeks before. He is survived by son Kenneth Lindsay Haman and daughter Patricia Gardner Haman, his grandchildren Sarah L. Haman, Rachel A. Haman and her husband Mathew Skiba, Kirsted E. Carpenter and his great-grandson Roan M. Haman.

Lindsay married Betty Mae Gardner in November of 1953 in Ontario, California. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003. Lindsay was a long-time resident of Phoebe Berks in Wernersville, PA, having moved there with Betty on September 12, 2001. Ten years later Lindsay was quoted in the Phoebe Berks Newsletter, “The many wonderful and varied activities at Phoebe help keep us on our toes.”

After retiring from a career as a Mechanical Engineer in 1988 Lindsay was active in the Berks Exchange Club and a long-time leader of the Berks County Habitat for Humanity. He helped start the Berks Chapter Habitat for Humanity in 1989 and served as the Director for 16 years.

Lindsay served in the United States Army from 1943-1946, serving two combat tours in Luzon and the Southern Philippines. He was joined to the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion and awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and Philippines Liberation Medal.

After being discharged in 1946 he attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, graduating in 1950. He started his career at Consolidated Edison in New York before moving to Ingersol Rand Corporation and then Gilbert Associates. While at Gilbert Lindsay held design responsibility for an emergency cooling system for Three Mile Island Unit 2.

Lindsay finished his career at the Baltimore Aircoil Company where he was awarded a United States patent for the development of a unique industrial cooling system. He retired with the designation of Professional Engineer and was recognized for the number of large-scale cooling systems he had designed over the course of his prolific career.

Lindsay was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 1, 1923 to Donald A. and Gladys F. Haman and grew up in Brooklyn until he married Betty and moved to New Jersey to raise his children. Nearly a century later he was interviewed at Phoebe Berks: “If you’re retired don’t just sit at home. Go find something to do. Great satisfaction comes from helping others.”

A Celebration of Lindsay’s life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Phoebe Berks Chapel on the Phoebe Berks Campus, 1 Reading Dr., Wernersville, PA 19565.
