The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved an appropriations package that includes $6.5 million in federal funding for seven local projects and initiatives Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan backed through the Community Project Funding process.

Community Project Funding requests allow congresspeople to seek funding for specific projects and efforts in their districts. Funding for projects Bresnahan supported in the 8th Congressional District passed the House as part of the much broader “Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026” — a package of three appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2026.

It passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 397 to 28. Bresnahan spokeswoman Hannah Pope said they expect the Senate to take up and pass the package in the near future.

The $6.5 million in House-approved funding for local projects includes money for police department equipment and technology upgrades: $500,000 for the Scranton Police Department and about $1.14 million for the Kingston Municipal Police Department.

It also includes $1 million for a Dallas Area Municipal Authority wastewater infrastructure expansion project; $372,415 for city of Wilkes-Barre equipment upgrades; $1.25 million for a Milford borough sewer extension project; $1.25 million for a Monroe County wastewater treatment project; and about $1.02 million for the “Monroe County DA Opioid Crimes Section,” per a press release issued by Bresnahan’s office.

“I came to Congress with one goal: delivering for the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania,” Bresnahan said in the release. “I’m proud that this package does exactly that by funding local law enforcement to keep our communities safe, strengthening our economy, boosting American energy independence, building local infrastructure projects, and investing in the Army Corps of Engineers.”

When the Senate will vote to approve the funding as part of the larger appropriations package remains to be seen.

Bresnahan’s release notes more specific information on each of the local projects “will be forthcoming.”

“The investment will support 7 projects across the district, from new security cameras to help the Scranton Police Department catch criminals, to wastewater treatment plant upgrades in Monroe and Pike Counties,” Bresnahan said. “Every dollar is going directly where it belongs: our local communities.”

The 8th District includes all of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike counties and parts of Luzerne and Monroe counties.
