The City of Philadelphia is targeting some of its major roadways with a new beautification initiative.
Mayor Cherelle Parker hosted a launch event for the new “Gateways to Philadelphia” initiative on Friday morning at City Hall.
The program re-imagines Interstate highways and traffic corridors as symbolic gateways to the city.
The goal is to beautify those highways by removing graffiti, redesigning the landscape at seven sites across the city, and creating new America 250-themed murals.

Mural Arts and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society are both helping out with the project.
Work is set to continue through May.
This is happening ahead of celebrations for America’s 250th birthday in July.
