Christopher Wayne Beiler died of blunt force trauma after he was struck by a minivan Dec. 31 while riding a scooter in Salisbury Township, the Berks County coroner announced Friday.
Beiler, 11, of Salisbury Township, died at Reading Hospital following the crash on Churchtown Road, south of Mast Road. The crash happened just before 6 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The manner of death is pending as police complete an accident investigation, according to Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel. An autopsy was conducted Jan. 2.
Beiler was heading south on Churchtown Road when a Dodge Caravan failed to pass with enough space and struck the boy from behind, throwing him from the scooter, police previously said.
Contacted Friday, Public Information Officer Trooper James T. Grothey said the crash remains under investigation and there was no further information at this time.
“Once the investigation is completed, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office and Troopers will make a determination on charges,” he said in an email.
