READING, PA. – The Berks County Wrestling Individual Championships set to take place at the Geigle Complex.

Last season, Berks Catholic topped the team standings, and this year’s field is just as deep.

Most schools have already logged ten to fifteen matches this season, all building toward counties this weekend.

For the Wilson boys, ten returning players are back in the lineup. Keep an eye on McKaden Speece and EJ Brownback for the Bulldogs. Speece was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler last year and the coaching staff is hopeful some young talent will emerge.

On the girls’ side, they wrestled early on Friday and will continue on Saturday. Wilson brings six experienced seniors. Head coach Craig Koyste says they know exactly what it takes to be ready when it matters most.

“Usually, the day before we come in, I know a lot of teams come in, they do a little walk through and just try to make weight and stuff, but we come in, we don’t change our routine, we work hard every single day, we don’t really take many breaks.” Said Jason Gibble.

Craig Koyste stated, “Basically, preaching basics. Basics, if you can get a good setup, good takedown with a good half, you can go pretty far in these tournaments. The seniors, they’ve done three years now with me, and I don’t have to talk them up. They do a pretty good job getting themselves ready for matches. Now they just gotta pass that down to some of the younger girls so we can continue it.”
