ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A barricaded person who prompted police to shut down Airport Road on Sunday was later found dead in a hotel, state police said.
It started at 10:16 a.m. as state police said they tried to serve an arrest warrant on a 62-year-old man in the parking lot of the Super 8 at 1033 Airport Road.
The man, from Weissport, was wanted on a parole violation from Carbon County, state police said. He fled from troopers and went into a hotel room where he barricaded himself with a firearm, state police said.
Several police surrounded the hotel, including the Allentown Emergency Response Team, which state police said tried to negotiate a peaceful surrender.
When authorities entered the hotel room, they found the man dead. State police did not elaborate on the circumstances of the death but said it does not appear to be suspicious and there were no other injuries.
His name was not released.
Airport Road, which was closed between East Congress Street and Union Boulevard, was reopened about 1:25 p.m., authorities said.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, state police said.
