Six in a row.

That’s not a bad stat line, regardless of how it has been achieved. However, the manner in which the Pittsburgh Penguins have won their six in a row has been enormously important and, quite frankly, impressive.

The streak began with a couple of teams on the second of back-to-backs, Chicago and Carolina, but the Penguins gained momentum and swept their back-to-back last weekend by beating Detroit Saturday and earning an emotional comeback win over Columbus Sunday.

Given this compressed and at times quite unfair NHL schedule, every team has to go through it, and those that show up for the second game or the third in four nights will be the ones in the playoffs.

It’s been a momentous week that may have saved the Penguins’ season, set the team on a new trajectory, and maybe altered general manager Kyle Dubas’s thinking just a bit.

For PHN+ subscribers, we’ve got a few inside conversations. Why Stuart Skinner chose his white pads, why the Penguins gained a lot of confidence against Carolina, and one player who probably hasn’t enjoyed the last few games as much as everyone else, but still seemed in good spirits.
