A 22-year-old man was shot multiple times in the back at close proximity and killed in Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said.

The shooting occurred at around 4:44 p.m. at the 5000 block of Summerdale Avenue, which lies between an industrial complex and a park used for youth sports leagues, Pace said.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m., Pace said.

According to Pace, one shooter or multiple people pulled up a car alongside the victim, who was walking down Summerdale Avenue, and at some point began firing.

At least two spent shell casings have been found at the scene, but there may be more, Pace said.

As of 6:41 p.m., the crime scene remained active as police investigated.

Anyone with any information on either incident is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here.
