The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for their Wild Card playoff showdown at home against the Houston Texans on Monday night.

After what has been a rollercoaster season, Aaron Rodgers and company now have a chance to make the Super Bowl run they were targeting at the beginning of the year. It hasn’t always been pretty this year, but the Steelers were able to get into the dance.

While the team is fully focused on the upcoming game against the Texans, the front office is already preparing for the offseason. There are clear needs that Pittsburgh will need to address in order to keep its championship window open.

Looking ahead to the offseason, the first question has to do with the future of Rodgers. Will the future Hall of Fame quarterback return for another season? Could he ride off into the sunset of retirement?

Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers

No one knows the answer to that question. Rodgers likely doesn’t even know the answer to that question at this point in time.

Regardless of who the quarterback ends up being, the Steelers have another need offensively. It has been clear this season that Pittsburgh needs to add another legitimate wide receiver alongside of DK Metcalf.

Keeping that in mind, the Steelers could become a contender to sign Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans.

Making a move for Evans would not come cheap. Spotrac has projected Evans’ market value to be a two-year deal worth around $26 million. Paying him $13 million per season would be expensive, but he’s worth that kind of money.

Evans is coming off of a 2025 season with the Buccaneers that saw him deal with some injury issues. He played in just eight games, catching 30 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. This season was the first year in his 12-year NFL career that he was unable to reach the 1,000 receiving yard milestone.

It’s possible that Evans will simply re-sign with Tampa Bay. However, if he’s open to the idea of a fresh start with a new team, Pittsburgh could make a ton of sense.

Playing for one of the most historic franchises in NFL history would have to be of interest to Evans. If Rodgers returns for one more season, that adds to the intrigue. Pairing with Metcalf would also be a good situation for Evans.

This is just an idea with no backing or reporting on the Steelers actually having interest in Evans. But, it’s a pairing that could make an awful lot of sense for both parties.
