LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – Individuals in possession of unused gift cards to a recently closed restaurant in Lehigh County have an opportunity to redeem them at another dining establishment.
On Sunday, the owners of Casa Catrina – a full-service Mexican restaurant that closed in December at 1905 Brookside Road in Lower Macungie Township – announced that unused Casa Catrina gift cards will be accepted at the My Tequila House location at 4558 Crackersport Road in South Whitehall Township during the months of January 2026 and February 2026.
Casa Catrina operated on Brookside Road in Lower Macungie Township.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your loyalty and support over the past six years,” the announcement on the business’ Facebook page reads.
“Your families, your celebrations, your smiles, your gatherings, and your special occasions with us made Casa Catrina a truly special place for our family. We appreciate your understanding during this transition, and we extend a warm thank you to My Tequila House for opening their doors to our beloved customers.”
In the weeks leading up to Casa Catrina’s permanent closure announcement, door signage had indicated the restaurant was temporarily closed.
On Dec. 22, the owners posted their “difficult decision” to not reopen the restaurant on the business’ Facebook page.
“Despite our best efforts to reopen and continue serving our community, circumstances have led us to make this difficult decision,” the Dec. 22 announcement reads.
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our customers, friends, and supporters who have been with us over these six wonderful years of operation. Your loyalty, kindness, and encouragement meant the world to us and made Casa Catrina a special place.”
Husband and wife Humberto and Elia Chavolla, who previously owned the former Fiesta Olé restaurant on Lehigh Street in Emmaus, in March 2020 opened Casa Catrina at a prominent restaurant site at Brookside and Lower Macungie roads.
Over the years, the Lower Macungie building also housed other dining establishments, including Don Juan Mex Grill & Cantina and Stoned Crab.
Casa Catrina, featuring seating for around 140 customers on two floors, offered authentic, made-to-order Mexican specialties such as flautas, nachos, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, chimichangas and churros.
Guests could also enjoy beer, wine and cocktails from the restaurant’s full bar.
“Thank you for allowing us to be part of your celebrations, your family moments, and your everyday life,” the closing announcement continues. “We will always be grateful for the memories we created together.”
Within an hour, the closing announcement had garnered more than a dozen comments, primarily from individuals extending warm wishes to the owners and staff.
“Sorry to see you go!” one person wrote. “You will be deeply missed. I wish you all the best.”
“We are so sorry to hear!” another person commented. “We loved Casa Catrina!”
The South Whitehall location of My Tequila House, another full-service restaurant offering authentic Mexican cuisine, opened in February 2025 on Crackersport Road.
The second location of My Tequila House operates at 4558 Crackersport Road in South Whitehall Township.

It supplements My Tequila House’s original location, which owner Alejandro Ramirez opened in 2010 at a former Pizza Hut building at 1808 MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township.
The South Whitehall location of My Tequila House operates about five miles north of the former Casa Catrina restaurant.
The Lower Macungie building is now available for lease.
