Allentown police converged on the former Good Shepherd Rehabilitation hospital in Allentown on Sunday evening.

In a statement posted to its website and social media pages, Good Shepherd said it was cooperating with city police on what it described as an “isolated incident” at the building at 850 S. Fifth Street.

Hospital officials said the incident “did not involve any Good Shepherd patients, residents or employees.” The incident is being investigated and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the statement.

Police did not immediately provide information about the incident. Photos taken by a freelance photographer showed police tape surrounding the entrance to the building as officers investigated.

The Morning Call has reached out to the Allentown Police Department seeking additional details.

Good Shepherd noted that the South Fifth Street facility, which opened in 1967, is no longer in operation. It moved the rehabilitation hospital to a new location on Center Valley Parkway in Upper Saucon Township in 2023.

At the time, Good Shepherd said it would continue to provide outpatient services at the old campus. Those services are offered in the Hyland Center, a building next to the former hospital on South Fifth Street.

The Allentown campus also remains home to various administrative offices, as well as the Raker Center, a long-term care facility on St. John Street. In addition, independent living apartments are located on South Sixth Street.
