Two Lehigh Township police officers are being lauded for rescuing an elderly woman who fell into a pond Sunday afternoon and called for help using her medical alert device.

Township police posted on social media that officers were called about 2:30 p.m. to the 3400 block of West Walker Drive for a 911 pendant activation. Officers Anthony Stinemire and Elias Batihk found the woman in a pond, waving her hands for help.

The woman told police she was cleaning her pond pump when she accidentally fell into the water. The two officers, along with a neighbor, were able to pull her out of the water and bring her to her home, police said.

EMS arrived and took the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment. It was later determined that her body temperature fell to 88 degrees. The officers saved a life, the department said. Police noted the importance of people using the medical pendants.

“Even though the majority of pendant activations that we get are accidental, this incident is proof that they work and could quite possibly save a life,” the department said.
