Union workers have voted to strike against Erie’s Parker Lord.
According to a press release from IAM Local 1211, more than 250 members have voted to go on strike at midnight tonight over what the union is calling “unresolved economic issues.”
The members manufacture vibration and motion control components for the aerospace industry.
The press release says the last time IAM Local 1211 members went on strike was in 1974 against LORD Corporation. The union says the relationship between Parker Lord management and union employees has “steadily deteriorated” since Parker Hannifin acquired LORD Corporation in 2019.
The union says Parker LORD has not kept pace with the rising cost of living when it comes to workers’ wages.
IAM Local 1211 says they remain ready to return to the bargaining table.
Parker Lord released the following statement to us:
“On January 10, team members at our Parker Lord facility in Erie, Pa., who are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), voted on new labor agreements.
Team members represented by IAM Local 1968 voted not to strike, and therefore their new five-year labor agreement has taken effect. Team members represented by IAM Local 1211 voted down the proposed agreement and have chosen to strike.
Our first priority is the safety of our team and our community. We have implemented our business continuity plans to maintain safe and compliant operations.
While we are disappointed in IAM Local 1211’s choice to strike, we will continue to respect the collective bargaining process and not comment on specific details of the proposed new collective agreement at this time.“
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as new information becomes available.
