The preliminary hearing for a South Carolina man accused of running over his girlfriend with his car, originally set for Monday, has been rescheduled to Feb. 17 at 9 a.m., court records show.
Joseph Garcia, 18, of Sumter, faces two charges of aggravated assault and remains in Lackawanna County Prison without bail.
Officers responded to the rear of 1131 W. Locust St., Roundwoods Place, West Scranton, Dec. 29 at about 3:45 p.m. for a report of a woman who was not breathing, according to the criminal complaint. There police found Rose Hernandez, 18, in a puddle of blood and bleeding from the mouth.
She was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, where she was pronounced dead. Her injuries were consistent with having been hit by a motor vehicle and there were tire marks on her clothing, police said. An autopsy deemed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
