OBITUARY

Rudolph “Rudy” Mertens, age 94, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 10, 2026.

Born in Herdorf, Germany, he was the youngest son of Peter and Thekla (Frensch) Mertens.

Rudy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Warda Mertens, to whom he was married for 58 years; his brothers Ernst, Alfred, and Joseph; his sister Anneliese, all of Germany, and his brother-in-law Edward Warda of Exton, PA.

He is survived by Ann Mertens Reinbold and her husband Greg of Macungie, and their daughter Rachel; Rose Mertens Lance and her husband Fred of Scranton; Claire Mertens Marseglia and her husband Michael of Ramsey, New Jersey, and their children Matthew, Christopher, and Nicholas; his loving sister-in-law Jean Warda; his loving sister Maria of Germany; and several beloved nieces and nephews in Germany.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Friday, January 16, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1046 W. Cedar Street, Allentown. A viewing will be held from 9-10:15 AM Friday at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown, www.BKRFH.com
